Transforming Robin Park

Overview

Robin Park Leisure Centre and Robin Park Arena are receiving a multi-million pound makeover.

The exciting plans mean the 20 year old leisure centre and Arena are beingrevamped and remodelled, bringing the latest state-of-the-art equipment.

Made possible by a £6 million investment from Wigan Council as part of the Deal for Health and Wellness, work will start in mid-July 2018 and is targeted to be completed by Early Summer 2019.

Our NEW Gym - NOW OPEN The gym has been extended and packed to the rafters with with the latest Technogym equipment including the SKILLROW, SKILLBIKE and SKILLMILL. All of these are connected to Mywellness – meaning you can track all your activities in the gym and outdoors. A new Tanita machine has also been installed to bring you fast, accurate body composition results. But that's not all! Work on your core and lower body with new Kinesis Core and Squat/Step machines. On the gym floor you'll also find TEAMBEATS so you can make the most of your training by working out in classes/circuits to music while keeping a track on your heartrate via an on-screen avatar to achieve the best results. There's also a sled and track, so you can really push yourself! The new gym is complimented by an Olympic half rack and platform, plate loading machine and multi-functional rig.

Both fitness studios are currently being revamped and will include a new functional training area, with large functional rig and boxing rig. Classes will include Battle Fit as well as the Les Mills GRIT series. We'll also be introducing SkiErg - a tough indoor skiing workout. TEAMBEATS will also be available in the new Functional Zone.

The changing facilities have also been refurbished and new sauna and steam rooms introduced.

A dedicated Gymnastics Centre has also opened. It's packed full of the best kit money can buy and professional coaches to help your child achieve and stay active and healthy.

What’s happening at the Arena?

As part of the wider £6 million investment on site by Wigan Council, Wigan Warriors will move from their current base at Central Park in Norley Hall to the Arena.

This will be their new headquarters and become the base for Warriors’ professional teams and education programmes.

All facilities will remain available to the public and there will be a refurbishment of the indoor running track.

When is this happening?

Here’s some key target dates.

Mid October – End of December 2018:

  • A temporary reception and classroom will be installed to facilitate building works inside.
  • The first floor will be converted and refurbishment into office space and break out spaces.
  • The former gymnastics centre will be transformed into a high performance gym for Warriors’ use.
  • The changing rooms and indoor track will be converted.
  • Work will also start on the construction of an extension for new classrooms, auditorium and new reception area.

Jan – Early Summer 2019:

  • Completion of the extension.
