Runners At The Ready - It's Leigh's 3rd 10K

Registration is now open for the third Leigh Community 10K, which will take place on Sunday 11th August in Leigh town centre.

Last year’s race saw 750 people of all ages and abilities taking part raising funds for chosen charity, Wigan and Leigh Hospice.

This year, organisers are aiming for 1,000 runners. Inspiring healthy lifestyles, FCR Events Ltd, Leigh Harriers, Nectar Creative, Rotary Club of Leigh, Time2Run Events, Wigan and Leigh Hospice and Wigan Council are all working together once again to put on the event with the support of Leigh MP, Jo Platt.

Jo said: “This event grows year on year. It’s a fantastic showcase event for the town and a wonderful example of different groups and individuals coming together to make it the success it is.

“Wigan and Leigh Hospice is a remarkable charity which has been providing palliative and end of life care for people in Wigan and Leigh for more than three decades. They need to raise more than £3.5 million every year in donations and every penny of profit from this event goes to helping them towards achieving that target.”

All runners, joggers and walkers of any ability can join in as long as they are over 15 years of age on the day of the event.

Standard entry fee is £17 or £15 if runners are with a UK Athletics/ARC Running Club.
Donations to Wigan and Leigh Hospice can also be made when registering. Participants can also raise money for a charity of their choice.

Wigan and Leigh Hospice currently cares for more than 1,000 local people with incurable life-limiting illnesses every year. It also cares for those people who are important to patients through bereavement support, counselling and complementary therapy.

Hospice Chief Executive, Dr Alan Baron, said: “We were delighted to see the Leigh Community 10K grow to over 750 individual runners taking place last year and I hope we can top that in 2019.

“As a charity we receive less than a third of our funding from the NHS so rely on the generosity of our local community to ensure patients and families from across the Borough can continue to access our care and support at the time when it is needed the most.”
