Leigh ready and set for junior parkrun

The Boroughs first junior parkrun is coming to Leigh this May.

The first junior parkrun will take place 9am Sunday 5th May at Leigh Sports Village, it’s a 2k (1.2 miles) timed run, open to 4-14-year olds and its completely free!

Junior parkrun is all about having fun and taking part, it’s a great way to get kids active, encourage growing athletes and make new friends. It’s also completely volunteer lead so there’s opportunity for parents, friend and family to get involved too.

parkrun has taken the nation by storm after it hit the UK in 2007 and has seen over 1 million participants over 616 locations worldwide. Leigh junior parkrun will be the latest to join the fast-growing junior event locations.

Parents can take part with juniors and marshals are along the course all the way, so the juniors are always in site. Over 14s can take part in the weekly Saturday parkrun at Pennington Flash or Haigh Woodland Park.

Richard Smith, Inspiring healthy lifestyles Sports Engagement Officer said: “We are extremely excited to be bringing junior parkrun to Leigh. This new weekly run for under 14’s just adds to the fantastic array of running opportunities already available within the Borough.

All runners are asked to register ahead of taking part in their first junior parkrun. To register visit www.parkrun.org
