Ashton Leisure Centre's £3m facelift

Ashton Leisure Centre has reopened with ‘state-of-the-art’ facilities, following a £3 million refurbishment.

The new-look Centre now features an extended gym area accommodating more than 80 pieces of the latest Technogym equipment, as well as a fitness studio, cycle studio, 3G football pitch, and sauna and steam rooms.

Located on Old Road, the Centre also offers swimming facilities and a wide selection of rehabilitation, strength and fitness classes.

The Mayor of Wigan Cllr Bill Clarke, who marked the reopening alongside Ashton-in-Makerfield MP Yvonne Fovargue, said: “The state-of-the-art renovation will support the people of Ashton and the neighbouring towns in leading healthy and more active lives.

“These are facilities to be proud of, and in line with what you would expect from a private members club, which really shows what an invaluable contribution the Centre is set to make to the local community for many years to come.”

Work on the Centre, which is run by Inspiring healthy lifestyles, followed a £3.2 million investment from Wigan Council as part of their Deal for Health and Wellness for ensuring there are a wide range of facilities within local communities.
