A great day of play at Haigh!

Thousands flocked to Haigh Woodland Park for National Play Day despite rain!

National Play Day, which celebrates children’s right to play, treated children of all ages to a wide selection of crafts, sports and leisure activities right across the park.

The day saw the woodland come to life with play, fairies, giant bubbles, magic, bush craft and more!

Pete Burt, Managing Director of Inspiring healthy lifestyles, who organise the event on behalf of Wigan Council, said: “Once again, Haigh Woodland Park has welcomed thousands of children and adults to have fun and get active as part of National Play Day. A record number of youngsters, parents and carers enjoyed the attractions in beautiful surroundings, we look forward to seeing many of these residents again soon at the park or across our other leisure and wellbeing facilities throughout the borough”

Cllr Jenny Bullen, cabinet member for children and young people’s services at Wigan Council, said: “National Play Day has proved once more to be a superb event at one of Wigan’s star attractions. Haigh Woodland Park provided a beautiful outdoor space for children to learn new skills, explore new surroundings, but most importantly have fun. It was also a great opportunity for Wigan Council to meet residents to share ideas on how we can further improve our local area through The Deal.”

The beautiful landscape of Haigh Woodland Park can be enjoyed all year round, and will soon host a family day as The Tour Of Britain comes through Wigan and passes right by the park.

Thank you to Morris Homes for their sponsorship and helping to make the day possible.
