Steve snaps up free membership prize

THE winner of the exciting competition to name the new leisure centre in Selby has received the prize of a year’s free membership from leisure provider WLCT.

 

Steve Wadsworth chose the name Selby Leisure Centre for the facility, which is set to open in Spring 2015.

 

Steve Wadsworth with Paul Hirst of WLCTHe said: “I was really surprised and excited to win the membership prize. I’m looking forward to seeing the centre open and being able to use the swimming pool and checking out this fantastic facility for the residents of the Selby area.”

 

Paul Hirst, general manager of the centre, said: “Well done to Steve on winning the competition. It’s great that the residents of Selby have had the chance to play a part in the development of this modern facility, which is set to bring huge benefits back to the community in terms of encouraging people to be active and healthy.”

 

The new facility will include a health and fitness centre with up to 100 stations of equipment and dedicated changing facilities; a class and exercise studio; a refurbished synthetic sports pitch; a multi-use space for large classes, activities and sports such as judo, dance sessions, children’s activities; meetings and private hire; plus a sauna and steam room. There will also be two swimming pools – a training pool and a six-lane 25m pool.

 

The centre, which will be on the site of the old Abbey Leisure Centre, is owned by Selby District Council but will be managed by leisure and culture provider WLCT when it opens. 

 

Anyone wanting to sign up for membership can take advantage of the current offer of £25 per month – but it’s only available for the first 500 people who get in touch so don’t miss the opportunity!
