Rugeley Leisure Centre swimming pool to re-open as part of £1.25m investment programme

Inspiring healthy lifestyles (IHL) is delighted to announce the re-opening of the swimming pool at our Rugeley Leisure Centre as part of a £1.25m investment programme.

Swimmers will be able to take to the water again from week commencing Monday 28th February, and to maximise opportunities to use the pool we have provided a large number of public swims on the weekend of March 5th and 6th.

Together with Cannock Chase District Council, we will be hosting an official opening ceremony on 26th and the 27th March, showcasing the reinvestment at Rugeley.

Our Managing Director, Chris Derbyshire, says: “First and foremost, I’d like to say a huge thank you to all our members for their patience in waiting for the pool to re-open.

“The closure has given us the opportunity to complete extensive improvements, careful upgrades and invest in new infrastructure that will future-proof not only the pool but the centre itself.

“We are acutely aware of how much this much-loved facility has been missed and the pool reopening is great news for our members and the people of Rugeley.

“The need to address fitness, health and wellbeing, both physical and mental, in our community has never been greater. We are committed to ensuring that we promote and deliver good health through participation in physical activity, culture and arts across the communities in which we work.

“I would also like to thank Cannock Chase District Council for their continued support and investment in this much-loved community facility for the residents of the district.”

Repairs to the pool hall have formed part of a £1.25m investment in the centre, which also includes:

  • A state-of-the-art, outdoor 3G artificial grass pitch, with low energy LED floodlights, commissioned in conjunction with Cannock Chase District Council and the Football Foundation
  • New flooring in the centre’s two squash courts
  • Extended car parking facilities with electric vehicle charging points.

Improvement work at the pool includes retiling, the installation of a new heating, hot water and energy efficiency system and a new water treatment plant.

New pool staff have been recruited and are currently undergoing training and system inductions in readiness for the opening.

Bookings for lane swimming is online-only, and family swims can be booked by telephone on 01889 586260. A new timetable will be available on the Rugeley Leisure Centre website shortly, with programmes launching from the 7th March.

Our centre first opened in 2004 with the addition of the pool four years later. In addition to the new 3G pitch, it also boasts a sports hall, squash courts, gym, and studio.
