Learn to Swim Latest Updates

Selby:

At present it is not possible to provide a socially distanced viewing space.  Whilst your child is in their lessons we ask that you wait in the Summit bar and diner area where seating has been provided.

Cannock:

Space is available within the first-floor spectator gallery. Due to current restrictions, we ask that only one parent to attend per child to reduce the number of people in the building.

Wigan:

Hindley Pool, Howe Bridge Leisure Centre, Leigh Leisure Centre, Wigan Life Centre

Space is available within the first-floor spectator gallery. Due to current restrictions, we ask that only one parent to attend per child to reduce the number of people in the building.

At Wigan Life and Howe Bridge we have limited viewing for the small pool either on poolside or within the small pool viewing gallery.

There has been no change to the content of your child’s lessons. The timing for all lessons have been reduced by 5 minutes to allow us to safely manage the transition between lessons.

Changing rooms are available for you to use. We are encouraging parents/guardians to bring their child beach ready; this means wearing their swim costume underneath their clothes.

Please contact your Leisure Centre reception in person. We will endeavour to meet your request however programme changes are subject to availability.

We understand that you may not be ready to restart your child’s lessons. As availability on our programme is limited we are unable to hold a space for your child but we can place them on our waiting list so that when you are ready to return we can look to get them back into the stage they were swimming at in March.

To help keep everyone safe and socially distanced we’ve made a few changes to the way Learn To Swim lessons run:

  • Class sizes will be limited and spaced around the pool.
  • Swimmers are advised to come ready under their clothing so that you can minimise your time in the changing room.
  • Start times for lessons have been staggered to safely manage the transition between lessons.
  • Only one adult should attend with a child to limit the number of people in the changing rooms and spectator areas.
  • On arrival, follow the one-way system. Green arrows on the way in and red arrows on the way out.
  • Lessons have been reduced by 5 minutes . This enables you to access and leave the pool area within the lesson timings before the next session.
  • Equipment that the children will use for their lesson will be cleansed in chlorinated water between each group.
  • We are asking all parents/guardians to wear face coverings in our centres. Space is limited in some centres so if you feel it is too busy, we advise you wait in your car and return just before the end of the lesson so that you can stay socially distanced.
  • No other activities will take place in the same pool when lessons are on. This is so that we can accommodate lessons and maintain social distancing. This applies to all sites except Wigan Life Centre where the pool is larger enabling us to provide a wider pool offering.
