Hindley Gym

Hindley Leisure Centre has re-opened with a brand-new group exercise programme, outdoor fitness programme and racket sports.

Unfortunately, the gym will not re-open initially but we will be reviewing this decision within the next few weeks.

The gym at Hindley, given its size and layout, is simply not big enough to allow meaningful social distancing to take place.

We’d like to apologize to all our customers for this inconvenience but also remind you that your membership gives you unlimited access to Leigh Leisure Centre, Howe Bridge, Robin Park, Wigan Life, Ashton and Standish Leisure Centre.

In recognition of this reduced access for the next few weeks, members will pay just 75% of their direct debit payment in August and September. Alternatively, if you wish to continue to freeze your membership, please contact us.

It has not been an easy decision for us as a business to not open the pool and gym and we hope that you appreciate that we have made this decision because we have put the safety of you and our staff first.

When we open you’ll need to book in advance before you visit any of our sites.

Cannock Chase, Staffordshire

What activities will be available and when?

We’ll be restarting our Learn to Swim programme in September.

You can find a full list of activities when booking online via our new Leisure Hub Booking system here.

Don’t forget you can use both Chase and Rugeley Leisure Centre with your membership.

When will Rugeley Pool, Cannock Chase re-open?

Unfortunately, during lockdown major structural works were identified following a leak at Rugeley Pool. We are in the final stages of conducting a structural survey but what is clear, is that Rugeley Pool will need significant investment for it to re-open.

For the latest update on this, please click here.

Your membership means you can use any of our sites, including the pool at Chase Leisure Centre. We apologise for the inconvenience this causes.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact tellus@ihlmail.org

Selby, North Yorkshire

What activities will be available and when?

Gym, swim and group exercise are now reopen. Unfortunately, the gym at Tadcaster won’t open initially. See below for more information.

We’ll be restarting our Learn to Swim programme in September.

You can find a full list of activities when booking online via our new Leisure Hub Booking system here.

Why is the gym at Tadcaster, Yorkshire not opening?

Our members safety, as well as that of our employees, is extremely important to us.

We have assessed all of our Leisure Centres to provide safe social distancing and new customer routes to ensure people can do this.

Our approach has been informed by industry and public health guidance. Unfortunately, the gym at Tadcaster, given its size and the size of the changing areas is simply not big enough to allow social distancing to take place.

Unfortunately, the size of the gym at Tadcaster is not large enough for social distancing to take place in line with industry and public health guidance.

We will continue to monitor guidance and will re-open as soon as it is safe to do so. A new group exercise programme is available at Tadcaster Leisure Centre. You can find a full list of activities when booking online via our new Leisure Hub Booking system at inspiredbookings.org.

We value your membership and hope that you understand the difficult decision we have had to take and will take advantage of the group exercise programme and access our other sites

For all membership enquires please email memberships@ihlmail.org

Membership freezes

  • Gym members seeking to freeze their membership due to unemployment or a health condition are able to do so for a maximum of 2 months, after which the member is not able to freeze for a further period.
  • By exception IHL will consider a longer term freeze of a members direct debit collection for long term illnesses and or recovery. Such enquiries are to be directed to memberships@ihlmail.org for consideration.
  • As our places for Learn to swim, tennis and gymnastics are limited we are unable to freeze a members direct debit and hold their place on the programme. Members can alternatively continue to pay their Direct Debit payment which will ensure their place is held on the programme. Members wishing to freeze their membership will be placed on the programme waiting list with places offered in the future subject to availability.

Direct Debits

  • All Direct Debits will return to 100% of payment in October with the exception of members of Tadcaster Leisure Centre in Selby. Members will continue to only pay 75% of their membership until November.

Termination in contract

  • From 1st October IHL will be enforcing the membership terms and conditions of a minimum of 12 monthly payments for gym memberships and 3 monthly payments for gymnastics, tennis and learn to swim. Cancellation requests within the minimum contract term are unable to be processed. IHL will consider on a case by case basis any special circumstances for members. Such enquiries are to be directed to  memberships@ihlmail.org

Refunds for nonattendance due to illness or self-isolation

  • Unfortunately, we are not able to issue refunds for members who are unable to attend their sessions due to short term illnesses or absence due to Covid self-isolation or quarantine requirements.

Payments for memberships will recommenced in August on the same date of the month as your March 2020 collection.

We recognise that as we reopen safely, in a phased manner, you will not have the full range of offers and access you were used to pre-lockdown.

Therefore, members will pay just 75% of the direct debit charge for the months of August and September with the membership returning to its full price for the October collections. Should you wish to discuss your membership please contact memberships@ihlmail.org

We’ve made many changes to the way we operate to ensure your safety is our number one priority.

Learn To Swim customers will continue to have their memberships frozen until September when lessons will recommence. The 75% discount does not apply to Learn to Swim memberships.

If you are still shielding or simply not ready to come back yet, please click this link and complete the form.

Members have been telling us their fitness level isn't as good as it used to be before lockdown and that they can't wait to get back to the gym, group exercise and pool.

In preparation for when we can open and welcome you back, we are asking everyone to inform us of any changes to the state of their health by completing a short, confidential health questionnaire.

This information will help keep you and other members safe and healthy and will be handled confidentially in accordance with data protection regulations and our privacy policy.

If you inform us that your health has changed, our team of specialist instructors will be in touch. They will ring you to understand your fitness goals, review your existing programme and give you advice about any changes and one of the benefits of your membership. Click on the link here to take the questionnaire.

When you return, you’ll notice several changes to help keep you and the team safe. Click here to watch a short video about these changes. Amongst the changes in your Leisure Centres you’ll find:

  • “One-way” directional signs to help you move around and maintain social distancing.
  • We’ve introduced a Leisure Hub, our new online booking system. Please book in advance at here
  • We’ve rearranged gym equipment to ensure that you are always distanced from other members. You can be assured that you are working out safely, as our kit has been rearranged to be further apart than the recommended national guidance advice.
  • We’ve enhanced cleaning regimes. We will also have Hygiene Stations throughout our gyms for you to clean down equipment if you want to.
  • We’ve introduced additional hand sanitisers across all our sites.
  • Social distancing measures will be part and parcel of your visit..
  • A cashless payment process will be in place and we are making it easier for you to access the gym with a contactless door and turn-style entry system using your Technogym key or wristband. We can also add a sticker to your Lifestyle Card to make it contactless if you haven’t got a key or wristband. Watch this handsfree video here.
  • Our air conditioning systems now circulate fresh air only in line with government guidelines.

New rules and etiquette

On your return you’ll notice new rules of etiquette that all members need to follow. This will minimise queues, help maintain social distancing and enable equipment to be cleaned so that everyone has a fair opportunity to exercise, enjoy their visit and feel safe.

Can I book multiple gym and exercise class sessions per week?

Yes, you can book as many gym sessions and exercise classes as you wish per week. We politely ask for members cancel their session if they are unable to attend. This can easily been done through our new online booking system Leisure Hub. Simply click 'My Bookings' and 'cancel' on the appropriate session.

We can't wait to get you back in your favourite exercise classes.

Our programme is packed full of your pre-lockdown favourites and some new ones too. We have developed an exciting group exercise programme with a wide variety of class options covering strength and conditioning, holistic, low/ high intensity and cycling. The live and virtual programmes within the leisure centres will be supported by a new outdoor group exercise programme too!

  • We've reduced class sizes to allow everyone to socially distance when they work out.
  • Book online to guarantee your spot and please cancel ahead if you can't make it.
  • Class times vary between 30 and 60 minutes with a 15 minute gap in-between to enable social distancing to take place before one class ends and another begins.
  • We've introduces a "one-way" system around our leisure centres to allow everyone to socially distance as well as new cleaning regimes, additional hand sanitiser stations and contactless payment and entry.
  • All equipment will be wiped and hygienically clean before you use it.
  • We ask that members use the wipes provided to also clean their kit before and after use.

To help keep everyone safe and socially distanced we’ve made a few changes to the way Learn To Swim lessons run:

  • Class sizes will be limited and spaced around the pool
  • Swimmers are advised to come ready under their clothing so that you can minimise your time in the changing room.
  • Start times for lessons have been staggered. To check if your start time has changed log into your account on Home Portal.  You’ll also be able to check the progress of your child here as well.
  • Only one adult should attend with a child.
  • On arrival, follow the one-way system. Green arrows on the way in and red arrows on the way out.
  • Lessons will run for 25 minutes. This enables you to access and leave the pool area within the lesson timings before the next session.
  • We have increased the amount of equipment that the children will use, and this will be cleansed in chlorinated water between each group.
  • Parents and carers may be asked to attend lessons in the water with younger children (only one adult, per child).
  • The use of face coverings is recommended in the viewing areas. Space is limited so if you feel it is too busy, we advise you wait in your car and return just before the end of the lesson so that you can stay socially distanced.
  • No other activities will take place in the same pool when lessons are on. This is so that we can accommodate lessons and maintain social distancing. This applies to all sites except Wigan Life Centre where the pool is larger enabling us to provide a wider pool offering.

If you have any questions or require any additional information about your Learn To Swim lessons email us at swimming@ihlmail.org.

We’ve made a few changes to make sure your experience is as safe and enjoyable as it can possible be:

  • We’ve introduced a “one way” system in the changing rooms and throughout our buildings, hand sanitiser stations and enhanced cleaning regimes.
  • A new online booking system for lane swim sessions will mean you can book online, guaranteeing your space and limiting numbers on site to ensure people can socially distance.
  • Our Family swim sessions can be booked and paid for contactlessly over the phone. Please call 01942 828508 to book.
  • All sessions are 50 minutes in duration – this allows time to quickly change before and after the swim session within the one-hour booking.

Swim Etiquette

  • Swimmers are encouraged to arrive with their swimsuits underneath their clothing. This will reduce queues and allow us to open up more swimming times during the day by reducing the time people change.
